CAFF BOOK GIGS
FAQ:
Why I am involved in this?
A) Because Caff loves me and I either love or tolerate him B) Because I kick ass, as a musician and a human being. C) Because the traditional music of Louisiana makes my soul burn with a raging passion.
What do I have to do?
Learn a few tunes and play them on Oct. 26 at Blackpot and Nov. 2 at the Louisiana Book Festival in B.R. Also, jam and feast at the LSU authors' party on the evening of Nov. 2.
What am I getting paid for this?
For the B.R. gigs, $150 a man. For the Blackpot gig, $50.
What will happen at these gigs?
Caff will give a brief talk, maybe with slides, about the book and the songs, and then we'll play the tunes.
At the LSU after-party, we'll just jam on whatever.

THE TUNES
Set List and Arrangements (Tentative)
*The Blackpot set will only be about 30 minutes, so we'll have to pick and choose for that one. The BR gig will be more like an hour, so we'll likely play most of these. Curious to know which ones you think would be best for the chapel stage. Also more than open to other ideas for song selections, arrangements.
RORY O'MOORE (D or G)
This tune is just a jig. I was thinking it would be cool to just rock it out Celtic style, maybe tag on another minor jig and make a set out of it. I play it in D, but I was thinking it would be cool for Kristi to play in on accordion too, so we could do it in G. Or, Kristi, would D be OK? Chas, could we get your buddy to play clarinet? I'd like to have twin fiddles on this one to capture the feel of a 19th century quadrille band. I was thinking I would play mando on this one, Joel lead fiddle with either Chas or Money seconding, and either Chas or Money on guitar, Kristi on accordion, and Chas's buddy on clarinet.
SALLY GOODIN' (G)
Open to suggestions on this one. We could do it as a straight breakdown or more a Texas swing style thing with with breakdown. I play it on clawhammer, and we could also give it an old time treatment. Was also thinking it would be cool for Meghan to sing on this one. Thoughts?
JOLIE BRUNE (G)
Pretty ditty I was hoping Kristi or Meghan would sing. I have a banjo thing worked out for intro that we can try. Was thinking this: Me, banjo, Joel, fiddle, Richard and Chas, guitars, Kristi, accordion and vocal.
SAINTE CATHERINE
I was thinking we could do Kristi's Bonsoir arrangement of this if Kristi is down.
AIN'T GONNA GRIEVE
Was hoping Meghan would sing on this one. Joel, fiddle, Kristi, guitar, Richard, guitar, Chas, mando, Me, banjo.
THE WACO GIRL
Was hoping that Richard would consider singing this and playing guitar. Chas, guitar. Me, mando. Joel, fiddle.
LA BELLE JE SUIS VENU
Kristi solo?
DRESSED IN WHITE (E)
I have a fingerpicking guitar version of this and can actually sing it moderately decently. Sort of a call and response tune that I will get the girls to sing response on, also get Claire to come up and sing. It's all just one chord, so we'll have to just jam on it a couple of times and see what we can work out.
BATSON (C or D)
Basically, this is just the tune of "Frankie and Johnny." Claire's great-grandfather was the deputy in the case that the song is based on, so she will sing at least a few of the 37 verses! Would be cool to have tenor banjo on this one, which is what the string band had in the original recording. Who has a decent tenor banjo these days?
BASILE AND PERRODIN
Cajun style.
